The Native American Journalists Association will host an Opening Reception on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Arizona State University
NORMAN, Okla. – The Native American Journalists Association Conference Planning Committee has selected investigative reporter Connie Walker (Cree from Okanese First Nation) as the keynote speaker for the 2022 National Native Media Conference. Walker was selected by the committee to highlight her critically important contribution to the coverage of Indigenous communities across North America.
Walker will speak during the Opening Reception of the conference on Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
Walker is a journalist focused on the plight of women and Indigenous people. She started her career at CBC in Canada, where she was an award-winning investigative reporter. In 2016, Walker created “Missing & Murdered,” a CBC podcast that captivated listeners around the world and was downloaded more than 30 million times. “Missing & Murdered: Finding Cleo” was featured in The New York Times, Rolling Stone Magazine and Columbia Journalism Review, and won the inaugural Best Serialized Story award at the Third Coast International Audio Festival in 2018.
