The Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for two positions for Adjunct Professors (assistant or associate) in the areas of Audio Journalism (50% time) and Computational Journalism (100% time) with an expected start date of July 1, 2020. The selected Audio candidate will be a subject matter expert in a full range of audio media – produced features, in-studio broadcast, podcast, incidental sound for websites. The Computational candidate will have expertise in multimedia production and data-driven techniques. The successful candidates will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate rank based on professional experience and achievement.

Audio Journalism (50%)
The assistant or associate Adjunct Professor for Audio Journalism will administer and teach a comprehensive and coherent curricular program for students, both introductory and advanced, ensure that the Audio Media Program lab and equipment inventory is stocked for instructional needs, and provide hands-on technical support to students. The incumbent will participate in the Audio Media Program with advocacy and creative growth based on the needs of the students and the student feedback, and as new forms of audio, sound, and recording technologies become available. The incumbent will have an accomplished professional background and teaching experience or experience as a mentor or editor in the area of audio/radio journalism, a capacity for leadership, and possess technical proficiency in editing program tools and techniques. There is an expectation for fundraising using creative approaches and innovative ideas for industry contacts. There is potential to expand to full-time as the program grows.
Computational Journalism (100%)
Both position incumbents will provide mentoring and advising to master’s degree candidates and will chair search committees for faculty hires as needed as well as representing each Program at senate faculty meetings as needed. Both incumbents will be expected to continue to pursue creative work in journalism so as to continually develop the Programs to further the intellectual life of the School.
