Terrible, Thanks for Asking: Totally dying inside, you just say “fine,” so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that. Hosted by author (It’s Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool Too)) and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness, which is not an actual word.
Intern, Podcast – Terrible, Thanks for Asking
This internship opportunity will help build capacity in the largest and fastest growing podcast property for APM On Demand. It will also introduce the intern who might be outside of public media to the world of audio, helping us be a leader in diversifying the workforce in public media.
Key Learning Goals:
- Opportunity to work on every aspect of the process – identifying stories, pre-interviews, interview prep, interviews, post-interview production, scripting, editing, scoring and mixing.
- Opportunity to pitch and develop stories.
- Build time in their schedule to interface with other parts of the organization to see how other parts run. That includes the MPR newsroom, Cultural Services, other parts of the On Demand portfolio, and even marketing and business if they have an interest there.
- Production support, including preparing interviews and processing tape.
- Story support, including identifying stories and researching topics.
- Editorial support, including editorial meetings and episode group listens.
- Admin support, including music reporting and transcripts.
- Partial subsidy for onsite parking or bus transportation. Day to day transportation is your responsibility.
- Eligible to accrue for sick and safe time off.
- Eligible for health insurance as required under the ACA.
- Participate in robust on-boarding experience.
- Professional development: on-the-job training, personality assessment training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.

- Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors OR recent graduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) of no more than 1 year from a college/university program.
- Good emotional judgement and intelligence.
- Strong writing skills.
- Good organization skills.
- Good research skills.
- Interest in podcasting and audio.
- Familiarity with word processing software.
- Audio experience with any Digital Audio Workspace (ProTools, Audacity, Reaper, etc.).
- Audio experience with microphones, recorders, cables, etc.
