North Country Public Radio is seeking an engaging, thoughtful and enterprising person to join our award-winning news team. As co-anchor of our flagship, award-winning regional news magazine, “The 8 O’Clock Hour”, this person will help build the daily show and become a major voice in the region. The news host/reporter/producer will conduct interviews on the issues of the day, and weave together stories from our reporters across the region and state, as well as report and produce news stories for broadcast and digital platforms. Collaboration is an important part of this job. This person will join NCPR’s great news team and be central to finding, developing and telling big and small stories of our region. Skills/Qualifications

  • Strong background in journalism for radio and digital platforms, including news judgement.
  • Minimum of two years on-air public radio news experience; Associates degree required; Equivalent amount of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to produce compelling work for multiple platforms
  • Excellent writing skills for broadcast and web
  • Strong experience in on-air public radio news
  • Experience live hosting a news program and/or newscast, including working with a control room broadcast board.
  • Compelling, trustworthy on-air personality
  • Desire and ability to develop a deep knowledge of and passion for the North Country region, including its history, culture, and ecology.
  • Ability to record and gather high-quality audio in the field
  • Experience in audio and story editing, preferably in public radio
  • Strong photography and/or video skills
  • Expertise in multi-media skills, such as visual journalism, data-based reporting, social media engagement, etc.
  • Understanding and appreciation of public media and its audience
  • Ability to work various hours, including weekends, depending on the needs of the news department.
  • Valid Driver’s license and vehicle to drive to news coverage assignments
