The Capital Times (captimes.com), a digital-first media enterprise in Madison, Wisconsin, seeks an innovative, team-oriented photographer/visual journalist to join our newsroom. Candidates should be eager to bring new ideas and collaborate with our staff of editors and reporters in covering city and state government, education, the arts, entertainment, entrepreneurship and other aspects of life in Madison, an energetic city in a news-making state.
This position is a great opportunity for a self-starter and creative thinker who wants to tell stories in fresh ways. The right candidate should be equally comfortable shooting in a photo studio as well as out on assignment and in collaboration with reporters. New approaches using video, Twitter, Instagram and other social media are encouraged. Regularly pitching ideas, leading projects and a flexible attitude are critical. Qualified candidates should have strong news judgment, sharp photo and video editing skills, and a digital-first, new media mindset.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred. A valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured automobile are required.
While we continue to publish a widely distributed weekly print tabloid, our future is digital and the spirit of innovation that comes with it. We have dramatically grown our digital audience and host monthly community events and an annual festival, Cap Times Idea Fest, to spark discussion and connect with readers.
The Capital Times is based in Madison, a rapidly growing and changing city, with a vibrant downtown, distinctive neighborhoods, extensive bike paths, excellent restaurants, a leading research university and a civic-minded citizenry. A politically divided state, Wisconsin has been at the epicenter of important policy debates, and will play a major part in the upcoming election.
