NAJA is celebrating 40th anniversary with membership giveaway

The Native American Journalists Association is celebrating a milestone 40th anniversary in 2023 by giving away 40 free memberships

NORMAN, Okla. — The Native American Journalists Association is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023 by giving away 40 memberships to prospective new members. NAJA will offer a total of 40 free memberships to students, professionals and associate members across the U.S., and Canada.

Student and professional journalists are encouraged to apply for a free membership here

The membership giveaway will bolster the next generation of storytellers by helping more journalists access resources for reporting on Indigenous communities. Free memberships will be approved for 40 student, Indigenous professional and associate members on a first-come, first-served basis, upon NAJA Membership Committee review and approval.

NAJA is also considering a name change to the “Indigenous Journalists Association” in recognition of the need to develop relationships, contacts, and cooperation across international borders. In this spirit, half of the free memberships will be designated for Canadian journalists.

NAJA is a dynamic platform for Indigenous voices and free press advocacy. Members represent tribal and mainstream news outlets across North America. The organization welcomes communications professionals who are Indigenous, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and First Nation, Inuit or Métis as well as non-Indigenous media allies.
